Give Our Hearts Faith in Christ’s Work

matthiasgrunewald_thecrucifixion2Merciful, eternal God,
you did not spare your own Son,
but gave him up for us all
to bear our sins on the cross.
Give our hearts such faith
that we may never be frightened
or despair;
through your Son,
Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Cross before Glory

Prayer Book Bible Reading Book Of Common Prayer

Almighty God,
your dear Son did not ascend to joy
until he first suffered pain,
and did not enter into glory
before he was crucified.
Mercifully grant that we,
walking in the way of the cross,
may find it as the true way
of life and peace;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord.
Amen.

Raise Us from Our Sins

O holy Jesus, most loving Savior,
you called out to Lazarus
and made him come out of his tomb.
May we hear you with our hearts, arise from our sins,
and serve you in newness of life;
through your mercy, O our God,
you are blessed,
and live and govern all things,
now and forever.
Amen.

Filled with His Love and Spirit of Self-Sacrifice

matthiasgrunewald_thecrucifixion2Heavenly Father,
let your blessing be on us
as we pass through these holy days
in which we remember
the sufferings and death
of our dear Lord.
Set his example before us,
that we may follow him
in willing obedience,
learn his gracious humility,
and be filled with his love
and spirit of self-sacrifice,
and learn the lessons of a life
pleasing to you
and helpful to our neighbors;
through him who loved us
and gave himself for us,
Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
