Prayer for the Seventh Sunday of Easter

O Lord, strong and mighty, Lord of hosts, and King of glory;
cleanse our hearts from sin,
keep our hands pure,
and turn our minds away from empty things,
so that, in the end
we may stand in your holy place,
and receive blessing from you;
with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
we worship and glorify you as one God,
now and forever.
Amen.

Canticle: Great Indeed Is the Mystery of Godliness (A Song of Christ’s Appearing)

The canticle Great Indeed Is the Mystery of Godliness (A Song of Christ’s Appearing) was used in the Roman Liturgy of the Hours in Evening Prayer on Transfiguration.

Great indeed is the mystery of godliness:
He was manifested in the flesh,
vindicated by the Spirit,
seen by angels,
proclaimed among the nations,
believed on in the world,
taken up in glory.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

An Ascension Prayer (2)

Ascension_PaintingLord Jesus Christ,
Son of the most high,
you sit at the right hand of your Father,
and you rule as Lord over all
in heaven and on earth,
and you fill everything in every way.
Let us enjoy
the rule of your glorious majesty.
Send us your Holy Spirit.
Give us true servants of your Word,
and bless them with all spiritual gifts,
that they may hold to your pure Word,
defy Satan and all his tyranny,
and preserve your kingdom on earth by your power
until all your enemies lie under your feet,
and that we may finally overcome sin,
death and everything else,
and enjoy eternal life with you;
for you live and reign with the Father
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one true God,
forever and ever.
Amen.

An Ascension Prayer (1)

Ascension_PaintingAlmighty God and Father,
grant that we may set our minds
on heavenly things,
and that we may be heavenly minded,
since we believe that your only Son,
our Savior Jesus Christ
has ascended into heaven
and that when he comes again,
he will take us to himself in heaven;
through our dear Lord Jesus Christ,
who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit,
one true God,
forever and ever.
Amen.

Prayer for Ascension Day

O Lord, King of glory,
when you fulfilled all that the prophets had spoken about you,
you ascended to your Father’s throne,
and opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers.
While you reign in heaven,
do not let us be weighed down by earthly things,
but keep our hearts looking upward
where our Redeemer has gone before;
through your mercy, O our God,
you are blessed,
and live and govern all things,
now and forever.
Amen.

Two Ascension Prayers

Ascension_PaintingAlmighty God, grant us such faith in your only Son, our Savior, who this day ascended into heaven, that we may live each day with our hearts and spirits fixed on him; through your dear Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Dearest Lord God, our merciful Father in heaven, we see that this festival of the ascension of our Lord Christ is full of comfort and joy, and for this we praise and thank you. We pray that you would keep us in your grace, and finally grant us a blessed end, for the sake of Jesus Christ your Son, that we may follow where he has led us and enjoy eternal life and salvation, sitting at his right hand. Grant this to us, dearest Lord. Amen.

Amen. Luther.  [Die Gebete Luthers, #673]
