May We See Things Eternal in Heaven

Eric Milner-WhiteAlmighty God, our heavenly Father,
you created us to be immortal,
and you made us an image of your own eternity.
Lift our eyes above the narrow horizons of this present world,
that we may see the things eternal in the heavens,
where you have laid up for us an inheritance
that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Original in traditional English:

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who hast created us to be immortal, and hast made us an image of thine own eternity: Lift our eyes, we pray thee, above the narrow horizons of this present world, that we may behold the things eternal in the heavens, wherein is laid up for us an inheritance that fadeth not away; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

This prayer recalls Colossians 3:2 and 1 Peter 1:4.
